Fifty One East hosts the first fashion show for international designer Monique Lhuillier

When I found out that Monique Lhuillier was coming to Doha and I was invited to her fashion show at Fifty One East, I was estatic!

Monique Lhuillier was born to Michel J Lhuillier, a French-born Filipino businessman of mixed French descent, and Amparito Llamas, a Filipino society figure and former model of Spanish descent.
Lhuillier is one of the world’s leading fashion icons, famous for her bridal, ready-to-wear and accessories lines that are distinctly modern yet feminine. Her dazzling and at the same time classically chic pieces stimulate women around the world, and her apparel has found celebrity fans in Emma Stone, Blake Lively, Sandra Bullock, Anna Kendrick, Taylor Swift, Reese Witherspoon, Drew Barrymore, Jessica Alba, Kristen Bell and First Lady Michelle Obama, among others.
The show attracted many of Qatar’s fashion elite and together we enjoyed the Fall 2016 ready-to-wear and bridal collections.
The Fall 2016 collection is an artistic expression of a woman who is eccentric and elaborate. While remaining sophisticated and ultra-luxurious, the collection takes cues from actress and style icon Talitha Getty. A rich colour palette of cherry, teal blue, rose pink and basil is contrasted by caramel and dark amber tones.
Dresses in the ready-to-wear collection are elegant to the limit of being luxurious and yet comfortable with fabrics such as guipure lace, and blend dark colours with lacquer floral embellishment.
As for the footwear collection, it includes high-heeled ornate floral caged sandals that make a statement when worn with crystal socks, and evening sandals accessorised with mink details, giving the Monique Lhuillier woman playful and whimsical options, no matter the occasion.
When the show was over, I went to see Monique and told her how much I loved the collection.
