The belief in the curative powers of nature extends to prehistoric times. Travelling to nature-filled destinations in search of treatments by mineral waters, hot springs or even herbs and oils is an ancient practice conducted long before the Greeks and Romans. U Spa by Constance continues to pursue this approach by launching new signature spa treatments derived from the rich nature and bounty which feature in the Indian Ocean islands.
The Signature treatment are available in six of the Constance properties, with each destination featuring their own exclusive treatments inspired by the location, history and the surroundings to showcase the true natural soul of the hotel.
Constance Hotels & Resorts operates two properties in Mauritius, each with their own different Signature treatments; at Constance Prince Maurice, the Signature massage combines the elements from some of the hotel’s most popular massages that have been created by experienced therapists to melt away tension and stress, allowing the body and mind to achieve a harmonic state. The treatment starts with soaking the feet in a scrub made of curry leaves, a natural remedy for certain skin conditions, and sea salt to remove the dead skin. The treatment moves on to a full body massage, with the use of a detox oil containing fennel essential oil that promotes good respiration and supports the digestive system, while improving the overall condition of the skin.
At Constance Belle Mare Plage, the Signature treatment is inspired by an old Mauritian tradition which uses a small copper bowl applied on the feet and body. The friction between the copper bowl and the skin creates a heating effect relaxing the whole body. The treatment incorporates the use of warm oil such as the Relaxing oil from the U Spa by Constance product line which contains frangipani, lemongrass andneroli. Guests can also choose the Detox oil containing geranium, grapefruit, fennel and ginger or the Rejuvenate oil made with peppermint, eucalyptus and rosemary.
The two properties in the Seychelles, Constance Lemuria and Constance Ephelia, also feature their own Signature treatments. At Lemuria, an old traditional Seychellois mixture of organic herbs, like cinnamon, ginger, lemongrass and clove, are collected from the resort garden and blended together. Mixed in a bundle and used for the treatment, the herbs are great way to relax the muscles and stimulate blood circulation. At Ephelia, the Signature massage is inspired by lemongrass, which is grown organically at their U Spa by Constance andalso grows abundantly in the Seychelles. The Signature massage uses warm organic lemongrass oil with different massage techniques to create a truly relaxing experience. The treatment finishes with a beverage of lemongrass and ginger tea.
When it comes to the Maldives, coconut is a key ingredient in most of U Spa’s treatments, as it is found in abundance across the tropical islands. In hot areas like the Maldives, the skin tends to become dry and coconut oil helps to give back its moisture, as well as providing antibacterial and antifungal properties. One of the steps of the Signature massage at Constance Halaveli is burning sage for energy cleansing. When the smoke starts to rise, the therapist will start smudging the smoke over the body from the feet up to the head then back down while moving around the table. The therapist uses coconut oil for the massage, which includes a scalp massage, and at the end, the guest will slowly be brought back to reality using a rain stick. At Constance Moofushi, the Signature massage uses warm coconut oil and a warm coconut pouch to massage the guest’s entire body. This treatment is suitable for all guests as it helps to ease muscle tension and provides total relaxation. The handmade pouches are filled with coconut powder and small stones and, just prior to the treatment, they are warmed with the oil in a hot cabin, and kept warm throughout the session.
